A combination of private donations and city funding provided the capital to create a new Arts Center. This downtown facility has become an icon for the city of Lawrence. The 40,000sf multi-functional building includes spaces for Arts education (painting, photography, ceramics, stained-glass, writing, dance, and print-making), Full-service auditorium, gallery spaces, and an arts-based preschool. Winner of 2002 AIA Kansas Honor award.
