Located on Collins Street at the gateway to Melbourne’s Docklands precinct, the new Lantern Building is a landmark development that announces the entry into the refurbished 1880s Goods Shed below. Utilising faceted glass panels the building reflects and refracts light as an articulated beacon signalling the entry to the Docklands precinct.
Developed specifically to maximise the commercial potential of its site, the PCA Grade A building features five generous office floor plates, side cores to maximise views and tenant configuration opportunities, panoramic lifts, Green Star 5 Star as built and a NABERS 4.5 Star rating. The Lantern building also features a generous retail space adjacent to the main lobby with provision for additional mezzanine floor space.
Built using entirely standard construction techniques, the Lantern Building was a fast track design and construct project developed with builders J. Hutchinson.
The striking facade design is based upon typical curtain wall technology, enabling panels to be manufactured offshore, efficiently transported and rapidly installed on site. The success of the outcome stands as a testament to the Building Studio Architects integrated design process of consulting the client and project team.
