Landscape Park Guldenhardt (completed 2006)
This project is a design for a landscape park in the old mining district of the Siegerland. Iron ore were mined from the La Tene period (500 B.C.) until 1960. The mine "Guldenhardt" was a well known iron ore mine in the 18th and 19th century. Alexander von Humboldt visited this mine in 1794. It was one of the first mines that established the method of stoping in the back mining. Today many relics of pre-industrial mining are still visible: open pits, old galleries, moats, etc. This projects suggests interventions to strengthen the relics and to enrich the beautiful low mountain range landscape with an interesting history. more information on www.guldenhardt.de (german language)
