In collaboration with Landmark Properties, Landfair marks LOHA’s latest contribution to the vibrant Westwood neighborhood, a stone’s throw from UCLA. This project represents LOHA’s fourth creation within the immediate Westwood area, joining an evolving architectural legacy that enriches the dynamic campus surroundings. Landfair stands alongside SL11024, Glenrock, and Strathmore37 as part of an ongoing narrative that shapes the neighborhood's architectural identity.
Comprising 84 units and 81,765 square feet of thoughtfully designed living space, Landfair caters to both students and the broader community, with several units reserved for Very Low-Income households.
In this lively student enclave, Landfair embraces a philosophy of pedestrian-centric living. Its design fosters intuitive movement through the massing, guiding residents with thoughtful pathways. The building’s open edges invite greenery and provide communal spaces for gathering, while also softening the scale of the façade and engaging in a dialogue with the street.
Two entry courts extend from Landfair’s central spine, creating punctuated points of entry that enhance the residential experience without disrupting the flow of the core passage.
A generous rooftop deck on the eighth level offers expansive views and shared spaces where residents can connect with both their surroundings and each other. The upper floors gradually flare outward at their ends, stepping away from the street to allow for abundant natural light and fresh air. This subtle gesture not only maximizes the building’s light-filled interior but also mitigates any overwhelming presence on the sidewalk below.
The façade is enlivened by a rhythm of vertically aligned windows, casting a luminous glow throughout the building. These windows serve not only as a functional source of light but also as a visual connector between the multiple levels, creating a sense of unity while diminishing the height of the structure. By night, their articulated arrangement allows illumination from residential units to animate the appearance of the façade, framing the glow that radiates from its center.
The building’s north face steps back in a series of articulated layers, echoing the rhythm of the neighboring Neutra structures, the historic 1937 Landfair Apartments. Here, Neutra’s model of the International Style sets a precedent for modern architectural approach on this city block, with uncomplicated provision of light and space at the forefront. Thus, Landfair offers a significant housing solution that honors the distinctive character of its surrounding environment.
