The directive of the project was to create a functional modern house, yet within certain restraints - modern, but not overly fancy, glamorous, or excessively minimalistic. The design lean toward a more eclectic and vibrant character, layerd with tropical touches to reflect the Client's personality and lifestyle.
Located in a premium area of South Jakarta, Indonesia, the 3-storey house was designed as a sanctuary - an escape from the Client's hectic lifestyle. A place to rest, recharge, and to clear their mind while still maintaining visual and emotional connection to their nearby workplace.
The front facade is dominated by earthy materials - terracotta walls, grey candi stone, balance proportion of greenery, and bengkirai wood secondary screens designed to filter the harsh west sunlight. All wrapped in darker tone palette. At night when all lights turned on, we will see a beautiful rhythm of shadow and light from the front facade. The result is a house that does not aggresively stand out despite its larger proportion compared to neighboring houses. It is a calmer visual presence for the Client's and passersby.
Another highlight is the house open-plan layout, especially within the living area. Featuring large openings toward pool and garden. The vibrant tone of the pool and garden blends seamlessly with the rich warmth of wood elements throughout the living - dining spaces. The space also complemented with selected of traditional art collections. All resulted in a warm and enjoyable atmosphere - far from being too clean or to cold & minimal.
Bedrooms, patios, bathrooms are oriented toward pool and garden. emphasizing indoor - outdoor dialogue throughout the house. A dedicated bay window in the master bedroom also frames the view toward Jakarta's CBD, maintaining subtle connection to the Client's workplace.
