Set in the Hiltingbury and Hocombe Park Special Policy Area, a modest but sprawling 1950's bungalow, the property had a charm the clients loved, but was too small for their large family.
Our solution was to design a 2-storey bedroom wing incorporating the required additional accommodation. The master bedroom includes a glass balcony overlooking the private front courtyard. A vaulted double height study space overlooks the hall, its 4m tall opaque glazed window flooding in light whilst preserving privacy.
The extension was built in rough painted brick with horizontal and vertical board-on-board cedar cladding to the upper level.
Large fixed glazed panels gently introduce the modern addition and timber cladding wrapping up and over the roof provides a division between old and new.
This home has been featured in magazines, and shortlisted for the Buid it awards '14 and HB & R '15 awards.
