The clients for the Lakewood Ranch Plastic Surgery
project envisioned a luxurious oasis to offer unparalleled amenities in
a relaxing and rejuvenating environment. The tranquil and organic
design of this facility allows one to escape to one of 5 exam rooms, a
procedure room, four offices, reception/lobby and checkout, staff break
room, and a restroom for both employees and patients. The office is
shared by two physicians, with room for future expansion. The project
has earned a LEED-CI Certified designation with the U.S. Green Building
Council. The office is located in the corner of a building
allowing for daylight and views in the majority of occupied spaces. A
glass wall is employed along the corridor to allow borrowed daylight
into the corridor. White translucent glass is used in the lower portion
of the wall, with clear glass above to provide ample light
transmittance, while maintaining privacy. Thermal comfort was a concern;
therefore adjustable diffusers are used in conjunction with zoned
thermostats for the employees to control their comfort. Installed low
flow plumbing fixtures and sensor faucets reduce water use. The
project employs environmentally friendly finishes throughout the
office. Rapidly renewable cork and linoleum flooring are found
garnishing much of the project while the remaining areas have Green
Label Plus Certified carpet tiles. Bamboo veneer over formaldehyde-free,
recycled particleboard compose custom desks. Interior doors are solid
maple with a low-VOC finish. Recycled glass tile adorn the walls in the
restroom while low-VOC paint and adhesives are used throughout the
remainder of the layout. Sustainable building practices are
employed in all respects to allow patients to relax, refresh and renew
without compromising medical care or privacy.
