Description:
This
site-built home is situated on a sloped wooded lot overlooking Sagamore Lake in
upstate New York. The 2,400 sf home is a weekend getaway for a couple that
wishes to escape their busy Manhattan lifestyles every now then.
Built on an
existing foundation and reusing the old fireplace, the new 2 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath
home takes full advantage of the waterfront property. The first floor has an
open floor plan with the kitchen, dining, and living areas all filtering into
one another. Floor to ceiling glass on the west side of the home provides
plenty of natural daylight along with expansive views of the lake beyond. On
the building’s east side, a Kal-wall system encloses the first floor bathroom,
second floor hallway and stairwell providing diffuse light into these areas.
The stairwell landing juts away from the rest of the structure and momentarily
places the occupant within the tree canopy. This gesture emphasizes the
relationship between the building, the site and the lake before entering the
private sector of the home on the second floor. Both the master bedroom and
guest bedroom, which doubles as a study, have exterior decks overlooking the
lake. The master bath features a walk-in shower while the guest bath is filled
with light from a skylight above.
The exterior of the home is clad in cedar lap siding and zinc panels
in order to achieve a modern yet vernacular look. The interior features white
oak floors, maple cabinetry, hot rolled black steel walls and absolute black
granite countertops. Interior Designer, Amy Lau selected the ‘mid-century
modern vibe’ of the furnishings and artwork.
