The Lakeside Center, by Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects, will replace the winter-only Wollman Rink ice rink with a 25,000 square-foot building that will qualify for LEED certification. The facility also includes two outdoor skating rinks (30,000 square-feet in total skating surface), which will host ice skating and hockey in the winter and roller skating and water features in the summer. The 26-acre project includes adding five acres to the Park’s Lake and three of parkland. Lakeside will also restore and enhance the original Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux landscape design for the Park, including the recreation of Music Island and restoration of the Concert Grove. Christian Zimmerman, FASLA, and the staff of the Prospect Park Alliance’s Design and Construction office are responsible for Lakeside landscape design and restoration plans.
