This 2,000 SF structure is to be a learning center / multi-purpose facility for the Lake Success Jewish Center. The design is site specific, incorporating views, and handicap accessibility from the existing parking lot to the synagogue. It's design and orientation takes advantage of the natural vegetation, daylighting, and ventilation making an optimal learning experience. The materials of stone and western red cedar are organic and natural. These materials were selected to relate to the materials of the existing synagogue as well as fit into the heavily vegetated site. The use of the butterfly roof to catch water and channel it through piping to underground cisterns is being explored for water re-use.This project is entering the construction documentation phase and is expected to break ground later this summer (2010).
