Lake Architectural had the unique opportunity to design and oversee construction on our new 1,500 sqft office space. This project presented a wonderful opportunity to the team at Lake to practice what we preach.
Located on the foundations of a Civil War era wool mill accessory building in Marcellus, New York, the project houses the standard architectural office program inside of a 27’ by 27’ footprint. The design focuses around a central curved stair constructed of wood reclaimed from the beams of the wool mill on site, creating public open spaces vs. private closed spaces.
This project is in the process of being LEED Certified Silver, accomplished via geothermal, reuse of the original foundation and materials such as brick and stone, healthy finishes, and energy efficient fixtures. The design utilizes the latest green material on the market including bamboo, recycled tile, Paperstone (recycled paper composite surface), Kerei (pressed sorghum board), low VOC paints, and high recycled contecnt gypsum.
The Lake team managed all LEED paperwork with a commissioner who oversaw the process and verified our stand. During the construction process the team was faced with challenges that were overcome with quick response and innovative solutions.
