Located on a rural site in Costa Rica overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the Lagunas Residence represents modern design adapted to traditional sustainable practices. The house is passively cooled employing a ridge vent feature inspired by vernacular building techniques and is oriented to capture prevailing winds off the southern mountainside. Large roll-up and bi-fold doors allow the entire house to be opened to the outdoors. All woodwork was fabricated from a tree that had fallen on a local farmer’s land.
