Entrerríos municipality in Colombia, has a great water wealth that throughout history has been threatened by the economic and productive pressures of the region. Thus, the modifications made in the territory to increase the available land for industrial, cattle raising and dairy industry use are evidencing problems that increase with climate change; Among these we have the contamination of primary water sources, the loss of ecosystems and the recurrent floods that this area suffers, which to date has claimed human victims and added considerable economic losses.
La Torura river, the main tributary of the municipality, is not immune to this reality, which is why the primary objective of this project is to mitigate the risk of flooding present along the La Torura basin through the creation of a new public space system that integrates the productive landscape, the cultural landscape and the water risk management while highlighting the environmental wealth of the region.
Through the activation and implementation of this urban laboratory, we seek to fulfill a double purpose: in times of drought the park can be used by the surrounding communities for recreational and cultural activities, but in the rainy season it acts as a storage space for water flow that improves the water collection capacity of the stream, returning it to the ground through a slow infiltration process that prevents the occurrence of disasters due to overflow. With this we seek to raise awareness about the urgent need to learn to live with rhythms of nature in our cities.
