"La Petite" is a cocktail-restaurant located in Florence, in that portion of the historic center which was affected by the nineteenth-century interventions by Giuseppe Poggi. The intervention is reviving this street which is very busy during the day and at night emptied completely.
An environment with reduced size has been transformed into a cozy and airy area. The space on which to intervene was fragmented and narrow by a mezzanine and a staircase oversized and bulky.
The removal of these elements has been the starting point of an intervention that allows you to appreciate again the heights typical of nineteenth-century building, restoring value to the volume and depth of the original space.
On the ground floor the cocktail bar is the space of movement, suitable for a cocktail or a quick lunch. While the room on the first floor, used as a restaurant, offers the intimate atmosphere of a cozy and welcoming lounge, where guests can spend time in small talk while enjoying great food.
The quality of the ground floor space has suggested to work on the wall, creating a wall sculpture made of travertine, which became a focal point.
There are many suggestions that have corroborated the idea around which the wall has taken shape. The masonry walls and pavements of Florence are a first reference: smooth stones juxtaposed with wrinkled, smooth surfaces next to chiseled, grooved, bush hammered.
The wall was built by splitting the element into triangular slabs of travertine, of variable thickness, glued each on different media. To obtain the geometrical complexity and the game of shadows sought, was studied the position and rotation of each piece.
In contrast to the light stone wall, the floor of the ground floor is made of oak, and the colors of the plaster are saffron color for the botton wall and in shades of gray in the remaining parts.
The new staircase, placed at the entrance of the room, is the centerpiece of the environment space.
The structure in steel blades, makes it permeable to the movement of clients between the two levels.
The subtle steps, covered with wood, accentuate the idea of transparency and lightness that characterizes the scale. The lanyard leather weaves and vibrant makes the parapet, and helps to visually dematerialize the metal structure.
At the top level, the lounge offers an intimate, almost a domestic living room: a large bench covered with pillows emphasizes the central wall, a shelf system to the hight of tables balances the proportions of the room painted, large mirrors magnify the environment reflecting the light coming through the large openings, on the floor there is a carpet vinyl that gives the feeling of a large carpet. The light fixtures are versatile in their use, adjustable to the tables to direct illumination or against the wall for a more diffused light effect.
