“Marquise” means an Oval/Round-cut Gem with Faceted ends, especially for Diamonds. This being the inspiration, the store layout is designed by the symmetry of cuts of diamond – the face behind the success of the Brand and their collections.
Located strategically next to the Gold Souk Atrium and the other big jewellery stalwarts in The Dubai Mall, the objective was to create a unique identity, customer experience and recall for the Brand’s first Flagship store in the GCC region. So, a number of material finishes were sourced from around the globe which resonates the brand’s commitment and policies to source the best stones and raw materials to create stunning jewellery pieces.
This Boutique features a hand-made chandelier featuring Bohemian crystals that are cut to embody the radiance and sparkle of diamonds. The 2M diameter and 1.5M high chandelier houses about 450 crystals which are suspended from antique brass concentric rings at different levels illuminated by 20 LED lights in the ceiling. A smaller version of the same design, 1M diameter chandelier is used in the VIP room. Both the chandeliers were commissioned by Hamrik from Prague, Czech Republic.
The show windows feature custom designed, partially see-through screens which encapsulate textile-like hand woven metallic threads by Atelier Sophie Mallebranche, a specialty Atelier based in Paris, France. These one of a kind, luxurious woven materials gives the store a much needed semi-private feel while completely enhancing the aesthetics of the store front. Two shades were chosen – Light Antique Brass and Pearl Effect Silver and the Open weave style to achieve more visibility. Being a very delicate material and also since the screens were pivotable, the meshes were sandwiched between Plexi-glasses and then enveloped with antique brass frames on all sides. Apart from providing the semi private feel, these screens are also used as an effective and an elegant backdrop for the show window display cases.
The store also offers a closed, VIP room for private viewing and consultation which is further enveloped by a customized and made to order wallpaper all the way from Modena, Italy. Produced by Glamora, this luxurious wall covering collection has an extraordinary intersection of cultures, giving rise to new styles through the patterns and weaving that seem to emerge from the textures, ranging from Africa to the Far East. It also incorporates and reinterprets a personal touch that echoes the contemporary world or art and fashion, ethnic accents and fairytale hints of gold and green.
Lighting was another key factor while designing this store. The reason behind the beautiful, striking display cases on show in any typical jewellery stores, there’s a science at play to help bring out the natural beauty of these precious stones. The illumination must capture the shapes, colours and the textures perfectly. Hence, pools of narrow beam focussed lights and shadows were key to create a dynamic and a soothing ambiance rather than a flat, general lighting. Not only the ambiance, this concept was predominantly followed to emphasize on the displays and in drawing the attention through this look. As a result, cooler tones were used to highlight the stones while the warmer tones were used to lighten up the store to make it more inviting and welcoming. The Lighting design was developed along with a Specialty Lighting Consultant from Rolle in Switzerland.
The storefront façade is cladded with Limestone to make a bold statement which is further enhanced with large, show window glazing and antique brass sections. The store entry is marked by a 3.9M high glass door with custom designed antique brass handle sheathed with Italian brown leather upholstery which further opens up to a bespoke, central display piece placed above the royal blue, hand tufted carpet from India and the Bohemian crystal chandelier above – thus all collating into an iconic center piece feature element. The entry way also has the brand’s inception year engraved in brass metal over the Porto St. Laurent marble which translates on to the show window display cases as well. This central display piece is crafted very aesthetically with curved glasses, brass highlights, pastel pink velvet fabrics for the display bases and it also houses movable, storage units which are again cladded with Italian brown leather and metal trims.
Another key display feature are the Individual pods. These 1.5M high display pods are very bespoke, catering to the specific needs of the brand to highlight the exquisite necklace pieces or complete/seasonal collections. It has curved glass shutters and recessed, static LED lighting systems which highlights the pieces and brings the best out of the diamonds. They are further made more sophisticated with Italian black leather cladding. All the other display cases along the show windows are cladded with Porto St. Laurent marble, Black leather, Royal blue velvet fabric and the Brand’s name engraved onto these artistic pieces. The two dealing counters on either sides of the store, displays the complete collection which also has a feature wall display behind. The walls and these niches - recessed wall storage displays are all curved which pays an ode to the feminism. The walls and the door openings take the shape of smooth curves which are made softer and soothing by incorporating earthy, muted textural finishes, greige floor carpets from the United States and soft furnishings like brown beige velvet curtains, pastel pink velvet upholstered, brass metal chairs and coffee tables. The wall niche displays are cladded with velvet fabrics again with recessed LED lighting systems and indirect lighting to create the dynamic display look and feel. There’s also a trial room next to the VIP room to give the customers a feel of exclusiveness and luxury.
