KYOTO PROTECTION BOXto open when the time is right
We consider the restoration and
innovation of architecture a global responsibility. It is our pollution that has harmed, and will continue to destroy, people
and buildings. Neglecting climate change cannot and will not be tolerated. This
is why we want to be involved in a mission that will help to ‘change the
face…and rescue an aging icon of Moscow’. The solution we propose is that the
cinema be wrapped as a Kyoto-Protection-Box.Russia is a key and influential
signatory of the Kyoto-protocol agreement.
It makes sense therefore that its
cultural icons be awarded the same kind of attention. Buildings need to be
protected against forces of reversal through clever architecture and design. As
long as we fail to understand what must be done, we are doomed to look at an
enormous wrapped cardboard box.
At the same time, the
Kyoto-Protection-Box represents a positive impulse on environmental ideas. From
an ecological standpoint, the box functions like a second skin to the building,
protecting and sustaining.
Maybe in the future, reversing
climate change will counter the box or make it unnecessary.
The
Kyoto-Protection-Box looks forward to a time when the people of Moscow can
embrace cinematic performances again fully, without being debilitated by smog
and greenhouse gases. From that moment on, the complex will be an open cinema
again, ahead of its time, instead of a cardboard box that pushes us back into
the age of the camera obscura when
technology didn’t have to justify its need to innovate our environment… Now we
know. And that’s what this box is all about.
