We were invited to submit several proposals for a Kuwait Martyrs' monument competition. Eventually, two out of three designs went to a final round. After a long presentation in Kuwait City we won the 1st prize and the monument is currently under construction in Shuhada Park, Kuwait City.
The winning proposal is a lens-like structure that is referring to the surrounding water, dragging it into a spontaneous dialogue between earth and sky. Somewhere in-between lies a duality of a blurred impression and a clear view, thus creating a pleasant play of contemplation. The plaza surrounding the monument is a place of rest and peace, with four branching benches keeping an equilibrium of a whole. Its long and curved design can strongly be related to the famous scimitar sword, which is a clear association to the context of the place.
