Located in Kusnacht, Zurich, this single family residence built in 2006 is constructed primarily from prefabricated wooden elements. Realized in conjunction with architectural wood manufacturer Holzbau Schöb, the modular system allows for individual solutions with short construction times. The architectural elements are CNC machined and prewired, which not only enabled quick assembly of the building, but allowed for extensive customization at low cost.
Priority was given to sustainability and minimal construction footprint. For this reason, only indigenous wood from sustainable production was used for the façade, while sophisticated energy saving systems and insulation reduce energy consumption and maintenance costs.
To create an ambiance of elegant minimalism, all finishings have been crafted with a singular treatment. The cement pour floor, for example, forms a sill-less, monolithic base, while the exterior wooden cladding is untreated and allowed to weather and accumulate texture through time.
