KU
building is located in central Tokyo, and the client accordingly requested
making a high profit.We
made the whole floor area into working space by designing space for storage,
facilities and structure like a bay window.
Since
the site is located in a residential area, we also needed to block the direct
view while maintaining openness.
Our
solution was to place the storage and facilities at eye level, and leave
opening s both over and under the space.
Though
this design, we succeeded not only in cooperating with the surroundings but
also in obtaining whole the floor area as working space.
The
steel structured building has a basement and 3 floors. The
steel frame is 10cm thick and the bay window-like volume is a part of the
structure. The
space above and below the volume serves as glazing. All the functions and facilities are placed into the bay window style
volume; therefore the working space obtained is the absolute maximum.
