The project is located in Qiaotou Village, Baoan, Shenzhen. The location was originally a natural river section. Because of many years of industrial pollution and unsavoury odours, the municipal administration rebuilt it as an underground channel. By means of design conversion, the architect re-implanted above the underground channel a stationary, man-made, ‘rushing river’ public footpath, using brand new visible language to re-evoke past memories of the earth’s surface and traces of the original identity, seeking their dual possibilities in landscape architecture and sociology.
