KRHouse is a project to renovate an old house in a quiet residential area. The house is a west-facing house, that receives direct sunlight, but the rooms behind lack light and ventilation, causing a feeling of stuffiness for the users. The design team needs to calculate additional natural light sources and air convection to create the most comfortable feeling when living in the house. The owner of the house is a person have a strong personality and loves art, so building design languages that bear the mark of the owner is also an extremely interesting matter.
The house's facade is designed with two layers that change on two floors to regulate sunlight and wind. On the first floor, the main bedroom is separated from the outside by Low E Glass Soundproof Windows and Doors, a layer of greenery, and an external wooden louver system to create a quiet space and avoid direct sunlight. On the 2nd floor, the automatic perforated iron door system on the outside and the sliding glass door on the inside create interesting lighting effects, regulate temperature, and enhance privacy in the room.
Using black as the main color, applying different color intensities as well as differences in black on material surfaces creates a rhythm for the whole house without causing boredom, creating an outstanding design and more depth for the house. In addition to changing the shape of the stairs to a wall-closer shape to optimize the area, the design team chose to create two skylights on the same axis to capture as much natural light and air as possible and pull the main living spaces and bedrooms away from the side wall creates a natural ventilation slit running high and long.
The circulation between stairs combined with the "playing" of light and materials on the floors creates visual effects and flexibility in space. The two main bedrooms are both arranged with large glass windows to look out to the "small garden" outside to achieve a symbiotic relationship between people, trees, and the house, as well as being able to easily connect enclosed space and outside space. And in each room, we design based on the differences in personality and age to suit the owners. The 2nd floor is a place to entertain and work, as well as express the owner's personal preferences. The space uses the main gray-white color scheme to "play" with colors from interior items and lighting to become more harmonious. The top floor is a garden filled with green trees and natural light.
The design language is minimalist from form to materials but emphasizes quality and meticulousness in lines, and spaces are intentionally arranged to create a personal spatial experience but still ensure a multi-dimensional connection with the external environment is what the design team wants to bring in KRHouse - "connecting in stillness".
