Kownatki Lake House – a holiday enclave in lake-studded Masuria region is reshaping expectations for high end leisure living in Poland. A development comprising 36 hectare landscape of pines, crystal-clear waters and disciplined architecture introduces itself through a model residence, signaling a project built on precision rather than compromise.
From the outset, the ambition was clear: to create homes of exceptional quality, shaped by rigorous detailing and a quiet, confident aesthetic. That vision comes to life in the generous plots of up to 2000 sqm. The calm of the lake and the rhythm of the forest called for an architecture that feels native to its setting.
The 110 sqm house, designed by Archmondo, reinterprets the traditional gabled rural structures of Masuria — filtering them through a contemporary sensibility. A simple barn-like form with a standing-seam roof was encapsulated in a sleek metal envelope. The façade, made of ventilated ACP, was covered by charred Siberian larch timber slats.
Large, glazed openings and a generous terrace dissolve the house’s boundaries, enabling every ground floor room to open outdoors. Natural hues and textures: charred larch, pale metal, mineral concrete, blend with the site’s tones.
Inside, the home is shaped for effortless family living. A soaring, double height living room with a fireplace forms the center, flowing into an open kitchen and dining space. Three ground floor bedrooms, including a master suite, frame this central zone. A sculptural staircase leads to a mezzanine suited to work or play, as well as an upper level bedroom with its own bathroom.
Natural ash wood and architectural concrete define the interiors, softened by expansive glazing. Lightweight sliding doors open the house on two sides, allowing the terrace and garden to merge with the living space. The compact barn form respects the local rural grain and views toward the surrounding greenery and nature.
