KORSANE
Restaurant in Meknès (Morocco)
350m2, 150 seats.
Address : Place de Tunis, Meknès, Maroc
DESCRIPTION
Korsane is a mediterranean restaurant located in Meknes,
The building’s high ceilings allowed for the creation of a mezzanine level housing the kitchens. On the public side, this mezzanine is designed as a gallery overlooking the main dining room.
From one end of the restaurant to the other, above and below the mezzanine, unfolds a continuous ribbon of reeds, treated like cane screens.
This system allows for the creation of alcoves of varying sizes open to the room. It then winds like a maze to provide access to the toilet area.
In a larger undulation of this flexible ribbon is located an elliptical bar dressed in zellige tiles and open to the grocery / tea room section of the restaurant.
The large facade extending over three streets allows one to follow, from the inside, the movement of the sun throughout the day.
Along the main facade, which is quite busy and has close neighboring propreties, customer privacy is ensured by a series of planters forming a green barrier, and by curtains stretched in the style of japanese panels in front of the large bay windows.
In the double-height space, lighting is provided by large luminous hoops of different diameters installed at different heights.
The materials used are essentially natural materials sourced locally : Taza stone flooring, zellige countertops from Fez, flamed stone tabletops from Guercif, reeds from Meknes.
