When the municipality of Amsterdam created a competition for a sustainable building in te north of Amsterdam, it was the start for a plan development. Tekton architekten won the competition and the wholesale business Koopman International decided to take over the plan. Their logo is woven into the head facades of the building. The building is the new face of the business in the region.
The plot is small and very long, this was an important factor for the design. There are two head segments and a part in between. In the glass plinth there are office spaces. Above these offices, there are two levels with showrooms which are connected to the already existing building. The higher volume on the waterfront contains two apartments. The steel construction is cladded with glass and light metal panels.
The sustainable ambition from the competition is maintained on the roofs of the building. The roofs are covered with photovoltaic solar panels.
