A base to enrich the city where people's lives can flourish
The area around Hotei Station is expected to transform over the next 20 years into a town where people of various generations live, as the railroad line is elevated to eliminate the east-west divide between the station and the surrounding road network developed for urbanization. This facility, located in front of the east exit of Hotei Station, is planned to be a “base for enriching and coloring the city where people's lives flourish,” where public and commercial facilities, centering on the municipal library, will coexist.
The public facilities are located facing the East Station Square, which will be the starting point for the station's future development in the East District and will serve as the southern gateway to Konan City welcoming visitors and citizens returning home, setting up a new face for Hotei Station. The coexisting private facilities were placed on the east side of the site to allow smooth access to the parking lot from the city planning road on the north side of the site and were connected to the public facilities. The two facilities formed a sense of unity as the new flower of the city while providing convenience that contributes to a richer lifestyle for all citizens.
In designing this public facility, we considered two important points.
The first was to create a flamboyant design that would be appropriate for the future of Konan. To reduce the heat load and ensure a comfortable interior environment by shielding the building from direct sunlight, the facade on the station side is covered with aluminum expanded metal shades, and a square opening in front of the event hall is symbolically inserted. The building is designed to be in harmony with the delicacy of the traditional bamboo craftsmanship, while at the same time, it is casual and fashionable enough to be used as an everyday facility, giving it a flamboyant image appropriate for the future of Konan City.
The other is to rationally node the good relationship between public and commercial facilities and the four functions of the combined public facilities at the entrance hall. While allowing free traffic from the plaza in front of the East Station to the commercial facilities and parking lot through the entrance hall, the vertical flow lines of stairs, escalators, and elevators are integrated into the four-story atrium, and the atmosphere of the library, health center, and childcare support center on the upper floors is created to overflow into this introduction space.
