The client brief was to create a non air-conditioned administrative office for its new industrial complex with minimum area and minimum cost maintaining all “vastu” norms. We approached the project with “minimalism” as an attitude for resolving the structural grid, the services, interiors, landscape, furniture, façade, etc.
We worked out two bays of 25’-0” x 110’-0” to accommodate the work areas, connected by utility & circulation areas & separated by a courtyard within. RCC slab with punctures covered with polycarbonate skylight & roof ventilating fans over the courtyard ensured ample light & ventilation whereas the greens inside & outside ensured the feel of working within a garden. All the services were brought on the external face & covered with corrugated cement sheet fascia – which also served for weather protection.
In Interiors too we discarded unnecessary supports, false-ceiling (except in cabins & management areas), stuck to a material palette with “earthy browns / blues”, used glazed partitions & minimal variations to create a feel of a”single space” & accentuate the architectural volume.
