Koloni House | Architect’s Residence | experimental Project |Finalised in 2020
In a suburb of Paphos, a single family house is situated on a sloped field, letting the view of the rural landscape to emerge. The concept of this project lyes upon a retro modern approach whereas simple and clear concrete surfaces together with metal slim pillars create a space that is opened to the surroundings.
The need to feel like one lives outside while within the shell of the house created the form of the non - elevation, a transparent volume that is exposed into the field.
All spaces face the south thus allowing the sunlight to enter all living spaces. The placed facades are protected from a linear projected slab that functions
as a shading element during summer days. On east and west elevations reeds create vertical shading
meshes for the lower sunlight. The reeds apply a draft essence on the house letting the light filtered towards the interior.
The structure of the house is of a high detailed design so that every functional feature would be built in and exposed to its true materiality (i.e the the bare metal staircase). The result is a functional space that comes by its own truth - a new modernity. The project is
experimental and belongs to the architect.
