The
project is fulfilled on the base of the competition task which was
announced in order to prepare the component master plan for
Koivusaari island.
Koivusaari
is located at an important entry spot on the western boundary of
Helsinki. Koivusaari has an excellent location on the new underground
railway line and the Lansivayla motorway. Koivusaari island is strung
on the Lansivayla motorway. The urban structure of Koivusaari is
planned as some great wave. The important point of the project is the
intersection of this structure and fast public transport
communications such as underground railway line and Lansivayla
motorway. On the intersection there is created a tunnel which is at
the same time an acoustic protection. The urban structure is planned
in such a way that it is a bridge between northern and southern parts
of island. And at the same time the certain gates to the city of
Helsinki. Above tunnel there are four arches in which located offices
and shops and maybe the administration of the district.
Almost
all the territory to the north of the Lansivayla motorway is filling
earth and almost all of it is covered by some stylobate, which is
partly situated and to the south of the motorway. Inside of the space
of stylobate to the south side there is vestibule of the underground
railway station .On its level to the north of motorway there are
shops, parking , stores of shops and engineering services, which mast
to supply normal work of engineering systems for normal life of the
district.
On
the level of the top of stylobate there are housing and recreational
area.
The
large-scale office buildings on the Keilaniemi shore in Espoo and two
buildings which are planned on the filling earth at the north-west of
Koivusaari stand out in the landscape as a powerful built elements.
They will shout to one another.
Two
high buildings are situated on the big square, which step by step
came down to the water. On the other side of the harbor there are
planned flats built on pillars. The same flats on pillars are planned
at the south – on the long spit which connects one of yachting
clubs with island.
