The site for this large house is a wooded hillside overlooking a protected bay. The project resolved the difficult topography by sepating the new structure in two parts: An elongated stone plinth as a base for the main living areas housed in a lighter structure above. The stone plinth constructed with a reinforced concrete frame ,necessary in the earthquake prone area, accomodates the sleeping quarters and opens up to the front into small private terraces with views of the sea through the pine forest. On top of this a light steel structure is anchored, shading with a wide cantilevered roof the main living areas. The volume faces northwest and is transparent on 3 sides affording spectacular views of the bay. The south side of this volume is protected by over exposure to the south by a long stone wall which blends into the hillside to the west. To the east the long wall acts as a boundary between the house and the access driveway.
