VideoKoby Cottage was designed for a boarding school for troubled teens to allow families to visit with their child in a private domestic setting surrounded by nature. The cottage plan has an X form. The dining table is situated at the structure’s crossing, creating a place for rejoining and discussion. One of the most significant aspects of the house is that it is the first building constructed using the “KFS” (Kullman Frame System). This system uses hollow tube steel frames in a Verendell Truss configuration to create very rigid modular frames. The house design takes advantage of the structural system through the use of large cantilevers and window openings. In other applications however, this system has the unique capacity to achieve heights of 12 stories and uses a proprietary patented connection system that minimizes field finishing and speeds the overall process of construction. The cottage is a prototype structure of a system designed for the construction of multi-story modular buildings. Its’ tubular steel space frame is extremely strong and efficient allowing large cantilevers and window opening
