Nestled on a 300m² plot of land along the outer dyke of the Red River in Vietnam, where mature trees thrive, the challenge of preserving and seamlessly integrating these existing trees into the architectural design is both daunting and full of opportunities to create a structure that harmonizes with nature and enhances the quality of living.
The flexible application of traditional architectural elements, such as the pitched roof and verandah, combined with local materials, allows the building to adapt beautifully to the harsh climate. The rough stone wall and lush greenery to the northwest not only form a natural screen, shielding the living space from outside noise, but also help reduce dust and heat radiation.
The front yard is designed as a buffer zone, regulating the microclimate, and offering gentle natural light. Sunlight filtering through the foliage creates shimmering effects that dance throughout the day. The house is surrounded by just enough open space to blend harmoniously with the surrounding trees and nature.
Inhaling the fragrance and cool breeze of the pure white Ylang Ylang flowers to the southeast, one feels a deep connection with nature. The seamless integration and efficient use of indoor spaces increase the planting area, creating open vistas of greenery. The sunken living room, separated and lowered, offers a tranquil and intimate atmosphere. Resting on a soft sofa, one can reach out to touch the leaves of trees just outside the window.
The characteristic verandah of traditional architecture overlooks a spacious backyard, featuring a year-round swimming pool. Technical systems are discreetly hidden underground, freeing the surface for plants to thrive. This design nurtures tree species typical of the tropical climate, cherishing and tending to them as they grow into large, sun-embracing canopies.
The project is enveloped in the embrace of green leaves, filtering out smoke and dust while capturing the most beautiful rays of sunlight. It creates a serene green oasis in the heart of the city.
