Two monolithic masses frame the delicate wood screens of this beach residence, hinting provocatively at the rich interior world that lies behind their veil. The vertical perforations serve to reveal the most distinctive feature of the home - a double-height private courtyard. Designed to draw light into the heart of the home, the courtyard is anchored by a 16 foot tree, which rises through the third floor plane and reaches toward a different horizon: the sky above.
From the courtyard, strategic punctuations of lush, small gardens are scattered throughout the floor plan in order to further blur the boundary between nature and architecture. From elevated communal spaces on the third level and natural elements permeating every seam, this residence exhibits the power and space that nature can create when given the opportunity.
