For the project space for digital media art km temporaer, initiated by Elisa R Linn and Lennart Wolff historic commercial spaces in the district Mitte in Berlin were refurbished.
The premises are located in a turn of the century tenement building which is situated in the immediate vicinity of the former border zone.
Parts of the building were demolished during the expansion of Germany’s internal border. These formative historical events can be seen in the basic fabric of the building, such as a windowless room which has remained as a legacy of that time. Measuring approximately 166 m2., the exhibition space incorporates eight rooms and is accessible via three ground level entrances.
Structural modification measures were carried out as part of the km temporaer project, wherein great care and attention was given to preserve historical features.
By placing light structured wooden walls which give surfaces were created appropriate for projections.
A system of simple wooden exhibition furniture, which is adaptable to different usage, was developed for the first exhibition „reflecting on networks / artistic strategies using the web“.
