KIPP DC Benning Road campus is a two phase project completed by Studio27 Architecture and their joint venture partner Devrouax + Purnell Architects. The 55,000 sf phase I Elementary School opened in June 2008 under a temporary certificate of occupancy permit while the construction of the 35,000 sf phase II Middle School was in progress. The construction phase of the middle school was completed in March 2009. The completed campus includes courtyards for play and a new gymnasium. Phase II has play space on the roof.This project recently received the DC AIA Design Award for Excellence.
