Shapiro Joyal Studio recently designed the interiors for a 1920’s apartment in the historically preserved Carthay Circle neighborhood of Los Angeles. It was important for Shapiro Joyal to maintain the integrity of the traditional space while also accommodating the lifestyle of her modern client, an award-winning sound engineer. Shapiro Joyal oversaw the space planning, material selection and design of all custom furniture pieces.
For the project, the interior elements were kept masculine and minimal, yet warm; textured neutral fabrics and solid woods juxtapose the colorful ceramics and artwork that quietly adorn the space. The space was first and foremost designed to be adaptable for work and personal engagements. Yet it was also important that it remain a personal refuge for the client, where he could retreat at the end of very long work and demanding workday.
Shapiro Joyal Studio custom furniture found within the residence, includes a custom sofa upholstered in felted wool by Kvadrat; a Lounge Series chair upholstered in felted wool by Kvadrat studio; a custom April Coffee Table in solid maple; a floating platform bed in solid maple; Risser End Tables and a custom side table in solid maple; a custom bookcase in solid cherry; a custom bench in solid cherry; a custom solid maple dresser; a custom wood and steel desk; and custom speaker stands in solid maple.
