The Future Lab is an extension project of the design and arts department at the King’s Academy in Jordan. The project is nested in the center of the existing U-shaped building within the larger campus. The school was looking to create this extension to house the “maker” activities that have been incorporated into the curriculum to enhance the student learning experience and innovation potential through high-tech tools and methods including digital design and manufacturing, robotics, rapid prototyping, among manual tools and machinery that develops the students’ maker abilities. The Architecture and interior design therefore contrasted the existing neoclassical architecture with a contemporary, steel and glass structure in order to enable the transparency between the Future Lab and the rest of the campus, as part of the schools ambition to promote innovation and creation within its core values and functions.
