Ravensburger and the architects of raumhochrosen designed a playing area for kids in the West Side shopping center in Bern, Switzerland, designed by architect Daniel Libeskind.
Ravensburger has a long tradition and experience in high quality game-design and is a professional producer ao games in all variations.
The architects of raumhochrosen in Bregenz, the graphic-designers Sägenvier and Zeughaus were highly engaged and found lots of ideas to build and design the playground for the kids.
The Kinderland is planned to occupy about 100 children for up to four hours while their parents spend time in the West Side Mall, Spa or cinema.
This task is accomplished with a varied playground extending over two levels. Its design is inspired by the Savanne, a habitat that can be found on every continent. The colours follow the landscapes of the Savanne in its various forms, crowded by the specially made illustrations of animals from around the globe.
There are common animals like lions, elephants and monkeys as well as new and unexpected creatures that wait to be discovered by the children.
In reference to the fauna, the two levels depict the animals’ habitat. For instance, the entrance to the cloak rooms is conceptualized as a „canyon“. In contrast, the green hued
reading area creates the impression of a bird’s nest in the treetops. In the main section with the crafts area there is a bench with a softly contoured edge of a riverbank, surrounding a sky blue “waterhole”.
These wavy riverside benches, hilly slides, landscapes of ropes and cables, climbing traps and a rest area in the crown of an acacia tree create a variety of spatial interpretations.
Under the gallery there is a supply corridor with side rooms, lavatories and a service room for technical support and personal;
the space under the slide and the climbing mountain provides extensive storage space for games and craft materials.
