The site is a narrow
strip of land that finds itself between the old city core and the
future district of Meerstad. A kind of nowhere... Not really on
the maps and certanly not in peoples minds. It’s neither urban
nor suburban. It is ex-urban.The configuration of the study area does not allow us to import
the urban fabric of either of the neighbouring cities into it. A
completely independant environment is imported into the strip. The proposed zoning for the intervention site is modified and
reinterpreted. Our proposal while staying wthin the same
programmatic scheme, offers two different things. The first is to give the new inhabitants both the privacy and the
urban life. The second one is a high mixity of morphological
and programmatic prototypes. The two landscapes, urban and natural, diffuse themselves
one into the other. The study area is shaped through a global
concept that emphasises the Dutch wetland landscape while
adding something new to it.Living not only ON or BY but WITH
the water is the key to the conception of the urban scheme.
