Khanh Hoa Provincial Children's Cultural Center is a cultural and educational project designed with many layers of meaning: from the image of young sprouts to the inspiration of red scarves, from the open square to the interior space with the breath of the ocean. The project is not only a cultural and educational center for children but also contributes to creating a new urban appearance, blending modern architecture with the local context.
It is located on a prime land right at the intersection of the 6-way intersection in the center of Nha Trang city. This has created a unique feature for this place, which is not only the intersection of traffic but also the transition of urban axes, forming transitional spaces in the coastal tourism architectural corridor with architectural languages interwoven in the process of urban development. The architect's design concept is to create a continuous connecting space from the surrounding roads to the inside of the building. Therefore, the building is designed to be set back deep inside, leaving the area adjacent to the roundabout a square space combined with rows of cool green trees.
Moreover, inspired by the image of a red scarf on a white shirt - a familiar symbol of school age, the design brings a bright, clear feeling and is imbued with the spirit of solidarity of a common home for children. The project is also a combination of soft curves, flexible movements like branches and leaves, like sprouts growing up, symbolizing an educational environment that is nurturing talents and nurturing young souls. The shape of the building blocks is a continuous collection of elliptical blocks that create movement, a rich flexibility in space that represents the dynamic interaction of children. In particular, the building blocks also create a feeling of non-rigidity for a modern city today.
Inspired by the coastal city of Nha Trang with the most beautiful bays and sandy beaches in Vietnam, the landscape space outside the project is designed with stories about the Sea. This helps children feel more attached to the project as this is a very familiar image to them. Each area in the Children's Cultural Center is associated with elements of the Sea such as ocean currents, rocky beaches, bays, islands, sandbanks... bringing rich experiences to children when participating in outdoor activities. From the outer courtyard, when entering the main halls of the building, one can see the moving lines of the canopy connecting the parts of the building that create a flow leading to the interior spaces.
The concept of “Beach Auditorium” is dominated by the blue of the sea. Like waves, the further away the blue becomes, the darker it is, expressed by the continuous change of color for the layers of materials from the ceiling, walls, to the upholstery of the chairs. The stage is like a golden sand beach – a warm color contrasting with the blue of the sea, which is the highlight that helps focus all the audience’s eyes on the stage.
