Turning into one street from the main road, the site is located in a new
residential district and has a shape like a flag.
Although the characteristic of this flag shaped site is the silence
because of the remote location, it is a site where the view from the
surrounding apartments, high school and parking lots meet.
While maintaining the privacy, we attempted to spread the field of
vision for the entire site and to let sufficient daylight into the residence.
Moreover, we tried to find a way to get closer to the border of the site
but at the same time trying to get separated from the surroundings.
In the first floor is LDK as one big room and in the second floor are
the private rooms, so generally it can be said that the function of the house
is divided vertically.
To bring enough daylight into the house regardless to the neighborhood,
we made a big opening into the roof, which goes down until the first floor, so
that it creates a light courtyard in the first floor and the rooms in the
second floor get divided by surrounding light courtyard getting also enough
daylight.
By creating openings into the walls of the light courtyard in the second
floor, we increase the efficiency of the natural ventilation and the lighting.
The rooms are located in the back, so that privacy remains and each character
of the light house and the rooms stay clearly separated.
The whole building is raised 700mm by a wooden truss structure so that
the windows in the ground floor is continued horizontally, the visibility to the
entire site is given and reflected light from the ground enters into the wide
big room in the first floor.
Surrounded by big hanging walls and the zigzag volume in the second
floor, the first floor is acquiring the sufficient lighting and ventilation
while emphasizing the character of the flag shaped site`s back space.
By designing with contrary rules of connecting with the site getting
separated from the surroundings, the intimate character of the flag shaped site
is emphasized and we acquire a closed but open living environment.
