"Ketab-e-Dastan" Bookstore

The space given to the design team in order to being restored, was part of the entrance lobby of the Resaaneh cultural center, located on Shaharzad blvd. in Tehran.
This space was vacant and unused while the opening of the center and became the residence for the guard of the center, also the access to the main mechanical installations and one of the passages to the sports saloons.
After building new partitions in order to provide these noted accesses, there remained an area of 200 sq.m.
After considering the limitations and possibilities, the demands of the client and the case studies, these are the main principles forming the ideas for designing this book store:
1. According to the limited duration of use (the place is rented), the internal design must be directed to an approach of defining and forming elements not only usable for this specific place, but also movable to any other place in the future and still function as the elements of an appropriate book store.
2. Considering the limitation of area and variety of functions, an integrated design with the minimum constructive manipulations in area is needed, in a manner that the whole area could be used as a multifunctional flexible space which supports several usages like selling books and music, showing films, presenting products for children, providing the possibility of entertaining kids, all simultaneously under one same ceiling without letting them get messed up with each other.
3. Having a variety of functions and products, the space-forming elements are meant to be designed in a neutral mono-tone color theme, in which the colorful goods like books, cds and toys, also the people’s activities are mostly accentuated, and therefore could vitalize the whole space, playing the main role in creating the general spirit of space.
This is how to keep the visual chaos and crowdedness far from the place, after all.
4. Paying special attention to designing the elements of space in order to achieve a unified Corporate Identity as the principal objective, despite the possibility of moving out to another place in the not-so-far future.
