Keong Saik Snacks Keong Saik Snacks is Makemei's first restaurant/bar project in
Singapore and we are extremely excited to be working with esteemed
Michelin chef,
Jason Atherton as well as Restaurateur/Hotelier Mr Loh Lik Peng. The
small open-concept eatery, which sits along the main Keong Saik Road,
will be a day-and-night dining option serving up comfort food style
cuisine in a very cosy setting.
The brief was to create a flexible dining space that could be
used for private dining in the evening as well as a daytime eatery.
The materials chosen are warm and textured; copper, wood and rusted
mesh. We want craftsmanship to be part of the identity of the space in
the same way that the meals are crafted by the chefs; with much detail,
texture and warmth. The main bar has been carefully shaped and layers
of copper have been clad onto its surface and rivetted together. The bar
stools are also custom-designed and handmade and have been welded and
bent into shape. The backless bar stools are designed to encourage
interaction and the double stools are for people to get really cosy!
Pop-up shop - The LibraryWe have also designed a pop-up shop next to Keong Saik Snacks which
will serve as a platform space for various installations/themes where
the contents will change every 6 months or so. The store will start off a
curated architectural/design bookstore with selected books
and reading lists chosen by reputable local architects and designers.
