The concept for the Kenton Expo Room is based on function and context. The building is located in the heart of Kenton's business district, and several blocks from the Expo Center. Although the two sites are some distance from one another, the Kenton Expo Room is a part of and will function as a window into the Exposition Center. Given its smaller footprint, the Expo Room offers a more intimate setting for private events and community activities.
The kenton Expo Room is located in a building on the entrance of downtown Kenton on a block that breaks the regular grid. Blank solid walls create semi-enclosed spaces that face both the interstate and downtown Kenton.
CONCEPT:
Borrowing the existing solid walls on the site allows to enclose the space in the main floor of the EXpo Room, and inverting them on the second floor creates two main great rooms with different characteristics. The rooms can be used together for a single event or separately for smaller gatherings. Both rooms are connected vertically where the two volumes interlock which creates visual connections and interactions. The space on the ground floor addresses the interstate and is a more inclusive space. The room on the second level overlooks downtown Kenton.
