The clients grew fond of this valley viewpoint in the hills behind Stanford University and a design would emerge that would entertain the clients’ needs while accentuating the seamless connection to the Valley.
The home is light and airy with its open plan with expansive walls of glass, allowing the eyesight to stretch outward unencumbered.
A six-foot wide steel and glass bridge provides access to the main entrance. Here, the stairwell is poised – glazed to the outside and open to the inside – contributing to the sense of connection to the natural world.
Tones and textures of interior finishes are delicate and crisp, using light, clear-stained wood paneling and flooring, exposed slate flooring, frosted glass panels and stainless steel. The textures of these materials and views of natural surroundings of the site, combined with the compositional interplay of light and horizon, satisfies the character of living space sought by the clients.
