Inc. received the top honor for the Architectural Record and Tulane
University School of Architecture “Katrina Design Competition:
High-Density for the High-Ground.”—a competition created as a catalyst
to reassess, re-envision and redesign New Orleans’ housing needs
following the devastation wrought by hurricane Katrina.
The design of the structure takes into consideration the regional
architectural vernacular, geography, culture, heritage and
infrastructure of New Orleans. The building is constructed as a
framework or armature composed of cast-in-place concrete. Each housing
unit or commercial space is unique in size, form and material and is
tailored to the needs of the tenant. The units are pre-assembled and
inserted into the armature.
