Katharina Hallen - Sportshall for Slussen, StockholmThe building intends to act as a landscape element, a roof folding into ramps and stairs, as a connection link between the city, its inhabitants and the slussen area. The concept of the building is deeply linked with sustainable issues: connectivity and acessibility of a public service, generating spaces to the city, not only taking its infra-structure. compact plan, solar orientation, natural light and ventilation and high insulation provides the environmental aspects of sustainability, while the connection with the rock allows its users to re-connect with nature, both physically and mentally, creating new possibilites of activities and uses. Its facade to the square, the main element is the ramp/stair, transforming the city in its performance stage, the east facade has an emblematic presence, in its materiality and the way it transforms light and shadow, blurring inside and outside. the cantilevered element allows in its free plan a multiplicity of uses, while become an interesting event per se, with great views of the slussen area for the users. more than a building, this folding landscape atempts to re-connect.
