The design proposal is inspired by the open-air circulating libraries created by the local volunteering team on Kimolos island of Cyclades, Greece. Kappa is an open-air space for locals and visitors that fosters human exchange through building onto the identity of the island: its specific characteristics, its reality, its particular landscape. It is a design initiative from Kimolos for Kimolos. The aim is to create a destination to host all the many activities taking place on the island and revolving around 1. culture and 2. bringing people together, creating opportunities for interaction.
Kappa is a micro-architecture designed to integrate with the urban environment while fostering ecological resilience. This modular, lightweight structure works in defining the relationship between built spaces and nature, creating a dynamic interface between architecture, biodiversity, and community.
