1st price international urban planing competition at the Konrad-Adenauer-Plaza 2007 (-2014)
Coming from the Kennedybridge you take to the peak of the plot, seen from here, in the rear is the town hall square, there a green space with high quality tree stock, but strong visual and audible traffic load borders.
The further development of the spaces and the formation of character of the place through the working out of existing but hidden qualities to promote a clear identity of the place and its design basis.
Existing rooms to be taken and differentiated visual links and paths cleared and created space edges.
This intention forms in the form of three building structureski which vary in size and form, shape and utility, implement it as a part of this new, part of an atmospheric concept can be seen from urban life.
The open spaces continue to flow around the new building and are not constrained by this. Advanced these are in advanced by a green inclined plane, which now unite the buildings with the space parts and brings them in an exciting relationship. This fluid level is of central importance. In part, provided with slope and slopes, they will be expanded and pushed along the towering building structure A over the base, to its edge. There it ends and forms a terrace, the new "City Balcony".
From here you can look over the Konrad-Adenauer-Platz across the Kennedy Bridge. In this flat surface leads from the foot of the pedestal a large staircase. So this area is the interface between green space and room space. It contains various proportions in both green and stone surfaces
The "City Balkony", next to a restaurant with views of the Kennedy Bridge, an attractive feature for both the visitors as well as an eye-catcher for the Kennedy Bridge to come, here is the central point of the re-arranged place.
Especially designed for the façade was a silver brick which also developes the existing facade and still seem a relationship to the environment. This particular brick is used on the entire area in component A, component B and the parking entrance. Windows are installed flush, in some areas with a screen print of the triangular structure, into the building. On the ground floor to the supermarket, glass facades are created from a post and beam construction in DB 703 large area. Aligned to the Konrad-Adenauer-Platz, overlooking the Kennedy bridge, a glass facade is revalued by a screen printing and so it enhanced the entrance to city of Bonn. This special feature of the façade design is intended to support the specificity of the place and re-emphasize.
As a counterpart across is the component B, which is also planned as a medical center and is seen as a further important point of orientation. Here is also the same silvery brick facade planned as a counterpart to structure A. In contrast, in a classical facade with perforated aluminum window shade DB 703, used analogously to the color concept of urban city of Bonn.
Also it reacts in its peculiar shape, as well as in its facade, to external requirements, is the logical conclusion of the buildings at the Friedrich-Breuer-Straße is clearly positioned at the Konrad-Adenauer-Platz and flanked the Ratsgasse. Together with component A, the second largest building B forms a kind of gate, which it invites the arriving passengers to pass through to get to know the new location.
Single storey here provides a passage, the Ratsgasse that leads to the Rathausplatz, which also undergoes a careful renovation.
About this new square design and a pavilion component C, which contains a restaurant, constituted another place of public interest, which is now also directly connected to the Konrad-Adenauer-Platz.
The cuisine is a clear corner situation, an "architectural capstone" from which limits the space and at the same time this opens. This integration and simultaneous extension of the existing urban image as a design premise must also be reflected in the design of the facade.
The material of the pavilion building C is deliberately different from the structure A and structure B from a steel and glass facade with the same motif of the triangular steel facade planned in DB 703. Here, the focus has been placed on a light and banners structure with an extensive greening.
Thus an urban "address" of the Beueler center is formed and furthermore created high quality open space.
