The new cruise terminal and port service center of Kaohsiung interpolates the formal language of the surrounding landscape and city scape. Surrounded by water, mountain and towering buildings, the design of new Kaohsiung cruise terminal aimed to create an iconography which reflects the characteristics of the city. Inspired by the water ripples, the fluid mixture of positive and negative spaces was one of the key concept behind the design. The undulating roof which negotiates different programs and functional requirements utilises the volumetric shifts from being horizontal to vertical to organise programs according to the functional requirements. The building is consists of three main elements, cruise terminal, semi-outdoor public plaza, and offices. The semi outdoor plaza is situated between terminal and offices serving as an intermediary buffer between programs as well as providing public amenity and spaces for entertainment and leisure.
