On the corner of Kansas and Augusto Rodin is located the Kansas 167 apartment building. The proposal holds 8 apartments, two blocks contained the architecture apartment and are divided by a main courtyard toward Kansas Street.
The corner has a south-west orientation; therefore, the use and control of lighting was a constant issue throughout the development of the project. The project has different types of units (apartments in a single floor and two and three levels), the single floors are oriented to the street of Kansas and the duplex apartments to the street of Augusto Rodin. The main internal circulation is carried out at the center of the two concrete blocks of housing towards the elevator and main stairs which finish off with a small vestibule that faces the main patio invaded by different types of species of wild plants.
The structure is based on rigid frames of reinforced concrete, the two blocks of housing are separated by a small patio and joined by reinforced concrete beams and balconies in which steel planters are deposited, with this gesture we pretend to contrast the brutality of concrete with vegetation. The same concrete structure is perforated along the entire east façade, giving shape to windows, massive walls, balconies, small windows gaps and flowerpot, creating varied mosaics that allow the lighting and ventilation of the houses. The south façade of the housing complex consists of 6 balconies of 20 meters long that unify the two housing blocks.
Inside the apartments, it was decided to use natural construction materials; concrete, steel and wood. Recycling the wood used for the civil work was a concern, we took advantage of a large part of the formwork, skids and staves of the concrete walls and slabs that were used for floors and stairs. The floors of some interiors of the apartments are of the same polin (wooden formwork), after receiving treatment it was polished and varnished.
